Books to Look For: The Brave Cowboy

Happy Monday! It's a new week!! And guess what?! We are starting a new series here on Crafts, Cooking, Curriculum.

We are a reading family. Daddy reads, Mommy reads, Emma reads, and the little ones 'read' and love to be read to. We love participating in the Summer Reading Program at the library...so we've read a great many books!

So, this is the first installment of Books to Look For. We'll take a look at picture books, children's books, books for kids to read on their own, and read aloud books that mom and dad read to the kids. I'll give you our thoughts on them, what we liked and why, and even have the kids give their input sometimes, too!

Today we'll be taking a look at a book called The Brave Cowboy by Joan Walsh Anglund.

A sweet little cowboy, doing his daily duties: wrangling bad guys, saving damsels in distress, roping some calves, and saying his prayers.

We have really enjoyed this little nugget of a book. Elijah is in a 'cowboy stage' right now, and this book really speaks to his little adventurous spirit.

We especially love the illustrations. Everything that is reality for the little cowboy is drawn in black, and everything that he is imagining is drawn in red. So clever!

The sense of duty and doing what is right is all throughout the book; such important concepts for sprouting little buckaroos to learn. :)

Elijah (and the girls too!) definitely gives The Brave Cowboy 2 thumbs up! Some other books by Joan Walsh Anglund worth checking out are The Cowboy's Christmas and The Little Angel's Book of Christmas.

Thanks for stopping by!
